Countess Exploration Well (Brooks, AB)
In October 2024, Sonoro announced that it had entered into a farm-in agreement with Badlands Resources Ltd. to explore for oil in southern Alberta.
Under the agreement, Sonoro will earn a 100% participation interest in a 2,240-acre land package by drilling the Countess Well, located about 10 kilometres west of Brooks, AB. The acreage encompasses several high-potential geological features within the Paleozoic section which have been delineated and mapped using advanced 3D seismic imaging.
The targeted formation lies at depths ranging from approximately 1,100 to 1,300 meters, which is characteristic of proven production of high-quality oil in the region.
“The Countess project represents a significant step forward for Sonoro’s Alberta exploration program,” said Greg Renwick, President and CEO of Sonoro. “We’re excited about testing this geological feature and the oil potential the prospect holds. A commercial discovery at Countess will open up several similar drilling opportunities on the earned acreage to deliver long-term value for our shareholders.”

On Aug. 18, 2025, Sonoro announced that it had secured a 680-horsepower Super Single trailer-style drilling rig for the Countess Well from Star Valley Drilling.
Rig 102 will target Mississippian-aged carbonate formations at an estimated depth of approximately 3,500 feet. Drilling operations are expected to commence by or before Aug. 21 and take approximately one week to reach total depth.
All pre-site preparation—including staking, sweeping, surveying, stripping topsoil and grading—is complete, having been carried out from Aug. 6 through Aug. 10.
